The new triple sports hall was designed as an independent structure and is situated on the previous hard court, in the immediate vicinity of the existing gymnasium wing. The gyms are half sunk into the ground, meaning that the cloakroom and equipment rooms can be organised underground, reducing the required plot area to a minimum. The infrastructure rooms are arranged at the front, which provides the hall with natural light over both longitudinal façades. The roof area of ​​the triple sports hall serves as an equivalent replacement for the lost hard court. The location of the triple sports hall means that the qualities of both the structure as a whole and the exterior concept can be preserved. The new triple sports hall continues to be accessable via the existing network of footpaths and the existing main and side entrances to the entire complex. Internal access within the triple sports hall is assured via two vertical connections:

The first is via the inner staircase with a lift from the foyer to the hall level in the basement, and to the upper floor with the working area for teaching staff and the hard court on the roof. The second is via the outer staircase, integrated into the north façade, and leading directly to the hard court on the roof.

The cantonal monument preservation authorities recognised the project as a compact and architecturally simple structure that blends in well with the overall Cantonal School complex. Next to the protected buildings of the Cantonal School, the new building is unobtrusive and consistent.

The premise of using minimal plot size to maintain the already tight space available for outdoor facilities requires two cost-relevant measures: having part of the construction volume underground and using the roof area of ​​the triple sports hall as a hard court. Optimised floor plans and a compact volume take account of the need for a cost-conscious use of financial resources.
