Over time, the former cantonal hospital and the surrounding neighbourhood have significantly altered the landscape balance of the foot of the Zugerberg. Restoring a clear relationship with the natural landscape is a rare but essential opportunity in this project. As a consequence, the project aims to re-establish a sensitive relationship with nature and landscape, which have significantly shaped the architectural project proposal.
In order to embed the new buildings considerately into the topography and the landscape, the volumes are reduced to a minimum. In addition, the entire surrounding area will be renaturalised and the mineral terrace and the biodiverse garden will be designed as new public and social places. These will be enhanced with a multifunctional hall. Under the floating roof above a green-planted plateau is the polyvalent pavilion which houses the restaurant and the museum. The new museum building BIOS combines science, emotions, technology, pleasure and art. The glazed pavilion, which is open to the lake and the garden, emphasises the social and public character of the project. The different living concepts allow for a diversity of residents and all-day vitality. The interconnected development and short distances facilitate encounters and support the formation of communities and identities. The building plots comprise a toal of 38 flats range of sizes between 2.5 to 5.5 rooms, all of which have a view of the lake. The ground floor comprises small-scale, flexible commercial units, while the upper floors and the attic contain high-end residential units. In the southern construction site with 23 flats for "residential" living for independent persons in the third stage of life who do not require care. The target groups for the 75-room hotel are business travellers, individual travellers and those seeking relaxation.
Thanks to the architectural implementation, everyone benefits from the lake and mountain panorama.
