Area development Rothusmatt
Client: Konsortium
Location: Rothusmatt 1-27, 6300 Zug
Number of apartments: 27
Completion: 2005
The Rothusmatt residential development in Zug is characterised by the building pattern selected, with 16 free-standing, uniform three-storey individual volumes on the one hand and the interplay between volume distribution and exterior design on the other. The individual buildings are situated like a chessboard on the site with its continuously rising elevation, to bring in the existing topography and green space. In contrast to the differentiated and intensively planted garden design, which respects the principle of the individual plot and creates privacy, the buildings themselves are kept as simple and precise as possible, which, together with a special colour concept, heightens their effect in the overall ensemble. Two pure-white sides and two-colour sides graduating towards light and dark grey are individually distributed for each building.
The range of apartments will be reduced to just two different house types. There are five buildings with apartments along the western border. They have floor-to-ceiling windows and spacious terraces looking out to the lake in the west. The remaining 11 buildings are used as semi-detached single-family houses or larger detached houses. They face south, towards clearly assigned private gardens.
